Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in Los Angeles and started playing football at age 7. After 20+ years in the Army, coaching became a way to guide young people the same way mentors guided me—through discipline, patience, and support.
Why did you start coaching?
I love helping kids grow. Football teaches teamwork and life skills, and I wanted a way to keep giving back. I’ve been coaching for 15 years now.
Biggest influences on your coaching?
My Army drill sergeants and high school coaches taught me discipline, consistency, and respect. Those lessons shape how I coach every day.
Why this age group?
Kids 10 and under are learning who they are and how to work with others. It’s the perfect time to teach fundamentals—and life skills.
Your coaching philosophy?
Scholars first, athletes second. Football is a tool to teach resilience, patience, and responsibility. Winning games is great, but personal growth matters more.
Most rewarding part of coaching?
Watching a shy or struggling player gain confidence. Especially kids with disabilities or new players—seeing them thrive is priceless.
Toughest coaching moment?
When a player struggles academically or personally. It takes patience, mentoring, and extra effort, but every child can succeed with support.
How do you balance football and life lessons?
Every drill has a lesson: teamwork, responsibility, and respect. Football is the vehicle; growth is the destination.
Advice for future coaches?
Be patient. Every kid learns differently. Focus on helping them become their best selves—not proving yourself.
Advice for parents?
Support effort over results. Encourage your kids, and remember youth sports are about character first, wins second.
Advice for players?
Control what you can, work hard, and never give up. Mistakes happen—how you respond defines you.
Team goals for this season?
To help every player grow academically, socially, and on the field. I want them to leave as better students, teammates, and people.
How do you want to be remembered?
As a coach who cared more about character than scores.
Favorite coaching memory?
One shy player scored his first touchdown. The look on his face and the pride of his teammates reminded me why I coach.
Outside of football?
I mentor kids in the community, spend time with family, and stay fit. Discipline is a lifelong habit.
Closing:
Coach Miller proves that football is more than a game. It’s about teamwork, confidence, and preparing kids for life. We’re proud to feature him on HD All Stars and can’t wait to see the impact he continues to make.
